Beacon Valley park upgraded

The City of Cape Town’s Recreation and Parks Department officially opened the refurbished Muurbal Street Park in Beacon Valley earlier today. The upgrade aims to improve the area’s recreational offerings and enhance community facilities.

The park upgrade aims to create a safer, more accessible and enjoyable space for residents, particularly during the upcoming summer holiday period.

The project was completed in collaboration with the local ward councillor and community representatives.

The goal was to create active spaces for gym activities and play, as well as provide seating areas for relaxation.

With a departmental budget allocation of nearly R1 million, this investment underscores the City's ongoing commitment to enhancing public spaces for the benefit of all residents.

These upgrades were part of a phased approach to ensure long-term sustainability and continuous improvement, to enhance the park’s usability and appearance.

Among the features are:

• recreational equipment for children and families
• reinforced fencing to improve safety for all park visitors
• a new tarmac walkway, designed to withstand high foot traffic and improve accessibility
• multi-purpose court enhancements, including gym equipment bases, line markings and combination posts
• park furniture installations, offering comfortable seating
• tree planting, providing shade and enhancing the park’s aesthetic appeal.

Recreation and Parks will manage the upkeep of the park, through the employment of a park buddy.

Local residents too are encouraged to take ownership of the facility.

In the interest of safety, the park will be closed at night. Operating hours are 08:00 – 18:00 daily.
